La Belle Epoque
We are a newly refurbished bed and breakfast having renovated our 250 year old
house to welcome our guests to the Dordogne. We are situated in a town called Excideuil, which is the chief town of 14 communes. The town is steeped in history, with a gothic church and attractive 16th century houses.
The castle in the town is set high on a rocky promontory, and successfully repelled Richard the Lionheart on three different occasions - although the main castle is not open to the public it can be admired from the outside and there is a public area in the courtyard.
Thursday is market day, when the village leaps to life with the busiest market in the region when people come from miles around to trade and shop every week.
Excideuil is also a popular venue for cycle races with the Tour De France and Tour De Dordogne both stopping here to use the town as a stage point.
- Set in the rolling green countryside of the Northern Dordogne, the Perigord-Limousin Natural Park is nearby.
- Also to visit is Tourtoirac, a village to the south of Excideuil with the remains of an attractive abbey.
Excideuil is a busy town with every amenity possible, which is set in the most beautiful surroundings of the perigord valley.
There is a No Smoking Policy at La Belle Epoque in all rooms, which adheres to the regulations set out in January 2008. A smoking patio area is available at the rear of the house.
